Lent is upon us!
For those among you who observe Lenten Promises, this is set to be a time of trial and tribulation.
A long time ago, I knew a gentleman who would give up 20p pieces – every time he got a 20p in his change, he would put it into a jar, and by the end of Lent he usually had a fair amount of money, which he then donated to a charity of his choosing.
Nice one, George, I will be doing this for Lent this year.
In addition to this, I’ll be foregoing the usual Sugar, Chocolate, Crisps and Complaining.
Giving those things up rarely troubles me, so it’s hardly a huge trial for me.
I will also be giving up buying things I don’t need and haven’t “really wanted” for ages.
That will be harder.
This year I thought hard about what else I could incorporate to my 40 days which will benefit people, instead of something which will just be hard for me.
So, I will be trying to do one nice thing to or for someone every day – being supportive, saying something nice about someone I’d normally dislike, actually getting up out of bed to turn the light off. That sort of stuff.
What are you doing for lent?
