I’ve been searching for the hair care “Holy Grail” product since I realised how important hair is.
My hair dreams saw me running through a meadow pulling a tractor behind me with my glorious, long and strong brunette locks.
My wildest hair fantasies involved me twisting and turning on a trapeze woven solely from my hair, dazzling an amazed audience with the glare from my inhumanly shiny follicles.
I set about finding products to help me achieve such drastic results – I tried home methods and natural stuff – whisking up eggs with goats saliva and ground willow leaves… and other such nonsense.
At best, the results were always limp and lifeless.
Then I started to use Redken Diamond Oil.
Redken Diamond Oil promises to:
“Condition & turn up the shine on dull damaged hair”
Well, my hair was relatively dull, and shamefully heat damaged.
The box also explains that:
“The Diamond Oil System with Redken’s exclusive multi-faceted Shine Strong Complex infuses hair with a nourishing blend of Coriander, Camelina and Apricot Oils to herlp seal in moisture and intensify shine. Each drop helps protect and strengthen hair for improved manageability while conditioning and illuminating for prismatic, diamond-like shine.“
I wasn’t expecting a miracle – I have used other hair oils before and been underwhelmed. Moroccan Oil, in my opinion, left my hair feeling greasy and heavy. Coconut Oil and other brands of Argan Oil had a similar effect, and I was getting ready to write off the whole hair oil trend altogether.
The first thing that struck me about Redken Diamond Oil is that the bottle is so cool!
Inspired by fragrance bottles (clearly) Redken have designed a really quirky, cut-diamond effect bottle in jet black, which looks very classy and feels very luxurious.
My friend even thought it was perfume, and it has been displayed up there next to my Marc Jacobs and Jo Malone fragrances.
I much prefer this look – it feels like a high end product, whereas some competitors’ packaging makes the product look prescribed or medicated. I’m not into that – give me luxury baby!
The instructions, like all other hair oils, advise to use “2-3 drops” on dry or damp hair.
Upon reading this on the box, I was irritated. With Moroccan oil and other brands you usually get either a pour-out or a pump action bottle – both of which give no assistance in determining what constitutes a “drop”.
If it’s a drop of rum, it’ll be around 50ml. If its a drop of chilli paste we’re talking about 0.5ml.
To my joy, when I opened the bottle I found there is a handy pipette attached to the lid with a click-dispense top – so 1 click = 1 drop!
Thanks for clearing that up, Redken! 10 points!
Obviously this means that the product dispenses evenly and without mess.
Plus, it smells heavenly, but not too strong.
Pleased that I could be sure I wasn’t using too much, I happily set about applying my 3 drops every time I washed my hair.
I have been using the product for around 2 weeks and have noticed a massive difference in the way my hair looks & feels.
For starters, even though Redken don’t specifically advertise it, my hair feels softer and tangles much less than it used to.
I’m positive this is down to the Diamond Oil because I haven’t changed anything else about my hair routine.
Oddly, although softer, I haven’t experienced any decrease in volume or thickness.
I often find that when I use products to soften my hair, it becomes flat in the process.
Not this time!
Nor was my hair left feeling greasy- another tick from me!
I’ve even been using 1 drop to smooth over finished hair without it looking extra greasy! Yey!
Now, on to what Diamond Oil promised: Strength and Shine!
Is my hair stronger?
Well, I haven’t tried to pull a tractor with it yet, but it does feel stronger.
I used to find that when straightening, some of my hair would snap and it felt rather brittle.
I haven’t experienced that since about 2 days in to using Redken Diamond Oil.
Is my hair shinier?
Yes, absolutely! It looks freshly coloured every morning, and although Redken don’t advertise this product as a colour-maintaining one, the added shine does make even my pathetic attempt at a home colouration look salon fresh!
So, all in all, I would absolutely 100% recommend Redken Diamond Oil!
I’m actually looking forward to investing in the rest of the Redken Diamond Oil range – I can only imagine how wonderful my hair will be then!
The price is £27.10 from LookFantastic, but considering you get 100ml and the pipette dispenser is so accurate I suspect this product will last for ages, so I’m happy to cough up for salon-fresh looking hair!
